Using Dumbbells Is More Effective Than Using Machines:

Using dumbbells is more effective than using machines in your workout for a number of different reasons. It doesn’t matter if the dumbbells are rubber, adjustable, grey hex or a power-block the result will still be the same, more bang for your time invested in your workout using dumbbells as compared to using machines.

A workout using dumbbells allows you to more closely mimic real life movements or sports movements thus making the workout more functional or more practical.

You will also be able to do more multi joint exercises or combination movements such as walking lunge with a bicep curl using dumbbells. These types of exercises will also allow you to perform fewer total exercises during a workout but still get an effective result for your entire body.

When using dumbbells you do not have a machine holding the weight in place so your own body has to stabilize the weight. This causes more muscle fibers to be recruited as well as bringing assisting muscles into play which all result in a more effective workout that tones the body quicker and builds more strength than when using a machine.

When you exercise using dumbbells you will also be burning more calories. The reason for this is that as previously stated you will be utilizing more muscle mass per exercise and thus burning more total energy to perform your workout.

Purchasing dumbbells is also a lot less expensive than purchasing a home gym machine. Dumbbells typically cost about 50 cents a pound as compared to thousands of dollars for a home exercise machine. This makes using dumbbells at home a lot cheaper than buying a machine or even buying a gym membership.

Does all this mean that machines have no use at all? Of course not. Some exercises cannot be done without the use of a machine. Take the lat pulldown as an example. This is a great exercise for strengthening the muscles of the mid and upper back and this movement cannot be easily duplicated with dumbbells, so you would need to use this machine in order to do that movement.

Machines also provide a level of safety for the exerciser in that the weight is held in place by the machine thus reducing the danger of dropping the weight or having the weight crash down onto the person. So machines do have there place but when it comes to maximizing your time and getting the biggest bang for your buck nothing beats the effectiveness of using dumbbells.
